I knew something had changed a couple years ago when the new 3-series started winning comparison tests against the ATS only because of superior trunk room and rear-seat space. Spoilers below...
The new M3 wins the comparison, and the writers do enjoy driving it (light makes right), but it loses out to the ATS-V in steering feel, brake feel, handling, ride, and “fun to drive”. Interior styling, rear seat room and comfort and fuel economy help the F80 to take the win on points over the AMG (2nd) and ATS-V (3rd).
If the rumors are true about the ATS-V getting another trim line with the previous Z06’s V8, I might end up in a Cadillac before too long. Or an SS...

The scoring seems completely arbitrary.
Why is as tested price 20 points? The Cadillac was $11,000 less than the BMW but only got 3 more points, but it had 3 less average miles per gallon and gets docked 3 points.
These tests are always somewhat silly, but come on. In a test of performance sedans shouldn't driving experience be significantly more important than fuel economy or trunk space?

Well, to be honest, the ATS has an instrument cluster that looks like it's fresh out of mid-90s Chevy Malibu. If GM would fix that, there really wouldn't be anything for detractors to cling to.

The ATS is not getting the LS7, or any V8 for that matter.
